Nelson & Sarah | New Bern Wedding

Pottery has always been fascinating to me.
It’s amazing how the various elements of simple dirt and water creat clay when pressure is applied.
That clay is then placed in the hands of the potter who creates a tedious, beautiful, unique, one of a kind vessel using care, patience, and pressure.
As beautiful as this vessel may be, it is also useless.
Before being useful it has to go through the fire. Sometimes time and time again. And in between those times of trying the vessel has to sit, cool down and maybe be tweaked before it is fired again.
This back and forth, in and out of the fire process continues until it reaches the point where the Potter believes it is ready to be used.
What a wonderful thing to be used.
Unfortunately however, the privilege of use comes with risks.
The risk of being chipped, cracked and even dropped or broken.
Then what? Most would say it that the vessel is then deemed useless.
Some however would not.
Some, instead see an opportunity for something stronger, something beautiful, something timeless and even more valuable.

Kintsugi is the ancient Japanese art of taking broken pottery and repairing it with Gold. This doesn’t try to hide the cracks or pretend they aren’t there. Instead it fills the cracks and makes them beautiful. This makes the vessel not only more beautiful but stronger than it was originally as well.

Life is often like a pottery vessel. Time and experience builds us up and fires make us stronger. Regardless of how strong we are made sometimes life takes an unexpected turn and we are left unexpectedly chipped, cracked or even shattered.
The important part once this has happened is not that it happened, it is how we handle it after. Do we look at the broken pieces? And let them as they are or throw them away? Or do we pick them up and take the time and patience to invest and make something better, stronger, more beautiful, more valuable, and once again able to be used and enjoyed.

This absolutely amazing couple has made the choice to do just that and what you see now is such a wonderful absolutely beautiful family with an amazing future ahead of them.

Nelson and Sarah- I have been absolutely blessed an honored to watch your story unfold this far and I can no WAIT to see what God has in store for you both. The strength that lies in each of you is beyond measure. I pray that God continues to bless you as you grow together not just as a couple but as a family. Thank you once again for the pleasure and honor of being part of your sweet, beautiful, and intimate day.
